Employers are required to display various federal and state law posters in their work place. Some of the law posters are required to be within the view of the employees while others should be available to job applicants also.

The requirement set by federal and state law varies depending upon the type of industry, type of business and number of businesses.

The law prevents employers from denying equal opportunities in promotion, hiring, training, member ship and other aspects of employment based on color, religion, gender and disability. This law helps to protect job applicants and employees from discrimination in employment opportunities.

Employee Polygraph Protection Act (EPPA): This act bars employers from using polygraph tests for pre-employment screening and during employment course. Also employers are restricted from discriminating, terminating and disciplining an job applicant or an employee for denial to take a test.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)

Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)

State labor law posters: In addition to the above mentioned federal laws, employers must also display state law posters. Here are some categories:

State minimum wage
Workers’ compensation

Right to work or right to know
Disability
Discrimination

Knowing what labor laws to display is difficult to determine as you will not get information readily available at one place. There are many laws that businesses need to abide with and these laws vary from state to state. These laws change through out the year and you should be updated with the posters each time if there is a mandatory change.
