How to Connect a MacBook Pro to a TV

Have you ever connected your MacBook Pro to a TV? There is a lot of content to watch on a big giant screen. It is useful for watching movies, playing videos, playing games and stream Netflix, etc. So, here are the instructions to configure the MacBook  Pro to a TV.

Using a cord

Here is the process of using a cord to connect a MacBook Pro to a TV. Follow the instructions carefully.

  • First, you will have to make sure your MacBook has which video output.

  •    After that, you can purchase an adapter for MacBook and ensure it has Mini DisplayPort for the HDMI adapter cord.

  • Now, identify the design of the cord with the HDMI port and connect the cord into the port.

  • Plug on the other side of the cord to your MacBook.

  • Now, switch on your TV.

  • After that, shift your TV to the HDMI mode your MacBook is linked to.

  • Then go to Apple menu on your MacBook.

  • Now, select System Preferences.

  • Choose Displays option.

  • Then long press Options and select Detect Display.

  • Thereafter tick the “Scaled’ box.

  • Adjust the screen scaling.

  • Select the dotted icon to back to the system preferences menu.

  • Choose the Sound option in the main screen.

  • Then select Output.

  • After that, select your TV’s name.


On Apple TV

Here is the process of using a cord to connect a MacBook Pro to an Apple TV. Follow the instructions carefully.

  • First, you will have to configure your Apple TV.

  • After that, your MacBook and your Apple TV will link to the same network.

  • Then switch on your Apple TV.

  • Now, turn on AirPlay on your Apple TV. Example of how:-



  1. Go to Apple TV’s Settings > AirPlay > Everyone.



  • Then go to the Apple menu on your MacBook.

  • Thereafter select System Preferences.

  • Tap on Display in the System Preferences screen.

  • Select the Display button.

  • After that, tap on “AirPlay Display” drop-down box.

  • In the drop-down menu, select your TV’s name.

  • Thereafter tick the “Scaled” box.

  • Now, adjust your screen scaling.

  • Select the dotted button to back to the System Preferences menu.

  • Then tap on the Sound option in the main screen.

  • Select Output.

  • Now, select Apple TV, and if your TV’s name appears on your screen, then it means the MacBook Pro is using your Apple TV’s speakers.
