HOW TO ACCESS YOUR WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL ACCOUNT IN MAC OS X MAIL

These two are the internet protocols through which email clients communicate with email services. Accessing Windows Live Hotmail in Mac OS X Mail with IMAP

Although both protocols work the same and give you access to your account. But the main difference in these two is that IMAP is more advanced than POP3. Possibly, you’ll want to use the modern solution, here instructions are given to configure Mac OS X Mail app with IMAP to connect and work with your Windows Live Hotmail account.

1.    Launch the Mac OS X Mail app.

2.    Go to ‘Mail’ and select ‘Add Account’ in the menu.

3.    In the “Choose a Mail account Provider…” dialog box, select ‘Other Mail Account.’ This option is at the bottom and after selecting it, clicks on the ‘Continue’ button.

4.    Now, type your Windows Live Hotmail account’s email address and password in the respective fields. Make sure to enter the correct details, and if two-step authentication is enabled in your account, then you’ll need to sign in through its procedure.

5.    After that, click ‘Sign in’ to proceed.

6.    Under the “Select the apps to use with this account” popup box, check the ‘Mail’ option to select. You can also choose ‘Notes’ to sync the Notes application too.

7.    After that, click the ‘Done’ button to finish.

Now, your Windows Live Hotmail account will be added to the Mac OS X Mail app, and you’ll be able to access and use your account on your Mac.

Accessing Windows Live Hotmail in Mac OS X Mail with POP3

POP3 is an older option and not as advanced as IMAP. If you’ve any specific reason for using it, then here are the instructions given to configure Mac OS X Mail app with POP3 to connect and work with your Windows Live Hotmail account.

1.    At first, you’ll have to enable POP access in your Window Live Hotmail account. If you’ve enabled it already, then jump to the next step. Or, use the below points to enable it in your account.

•    Visit ‘www.outlook.com’ with a browser in your Mac.

•    Then type your Windows Live Hotmail account’s email address and password in the respective fields and proceed to Sign in.

•    Open ‘Settings’ and go to ‘View all Outlook settings.’

•    After that, select ‘Email’ and then go to ‘Sync Email.’

•    Now, choose ‘Yes’ for “Let devices & apps use POP.”

•    And click on ‘Save.’

2.    Now, launch the Mac OS X Mail app.

3.    Go to ‘Mail’ and select ‘Add Account’ in the menu.

4.    In the “Choose a Mail account Provider…” dialog box, select ‘Other Mail Account.’ This option is at the bottom and after selecting it, clicks on the ‘Continue’ button.

5.    Check your name entered in the Name field.

6.    Now, type a fake email address in the ‘Email Address’ box.

7.    Don’t enter anything in the ‘Username’ box.

8.    Then type a wrong password in the ‘Password’ box.

9.    Now, clear the entered values and type your Windows Live Hotmail account’s email address and password in the respective fields.

10.    Open the ‘Account Type:’ dropdown and select ‘POP’.

11.    Type ‘pop-mail.outlook.com’ in the “Incoming Mail Server” box.

12.    And type ‘smtp-mail.outlook.com’ in the “Outgoing Mail Server” box.

13.    Then click on ‘Sign in’ button to enter in your account.

Now, access your Windows Live Hotmail account in Mac OS X Mail app of your Mac.
